Coronavirus (N) update at 1100hrs HKT on Sunday, Feb 9, 2020 Key Take: The number of new confirmed cases has dropped, due to China Mainland, principally Wuhan.
The number of global fatalities due to Coronavirus (N) has risen to 813 of which only two are outside China Mainland. The number of fatalities from SARS was also 813 of which 55% were outside China.
Analysis Between 1100hrsHKT on Sunday, Feb 9, 2020 and our last update yesterday at the same time:
1. The number of new confirmed cases globally totalled 2675 down from 3397 during the previous 24 hrs. Total confirmed cases globally are now 37553. The trend in new cases is shown in Fig 2 of Database charts. The peak for new declared cases was on Feb 5 but new cases are still running about 1000 per day above the level 10 days ago.
2. In China Mainland new confirmed cases fell to 2652 from 3385. Total confirmed cases are 37198. New cases of China as a total and Hubei are shown in Fig 6 of Database charts
3. For China Mainland, according to preliminary data, subject to revision, total confirmed cases in Hubei province are 27100 and in other provinces and administrative regions 10098. In the most recent 24 hrs Hubei confirmed 2147 new cases compared to 2841 the previous day. Outside Hubei new confirmed cases reported 505 down from 544, although by adding the reports of individual provinces together we get a rate of 546 – about the same as the previous day. This is probably due to differences if timing of reports.
4. There were 23 new case outside China Mainland down up from 12 the previous day. Total cases outside China Mainland are now 355 No new countries reported confirmed cases. Six countries with existing infections reported more: Singapore (40 from 33); Malaysia (16 from 15); Taiwan (17 from 16); Thailand (32 from 25); S. Korea (24 from 24); Vietnam (13 from 12) and outside Asia France (11 from 6). We have doubts about the accuracy of information concerning Coronavirus(N) from many poorer countries, including in this region, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Myanmar etc.
5. Globally fatalities rose to 813 from 724 – all of the increase being in China (mainly Wuhan). Fatalities have risen from 722 to 811 in China Mainland. The fatality rate globally rose slightly overnight to 2.16% from 2.08%.
6. The number of people who have recovered globally is 2685 today, 7.1% of declared cases, compared to 2085yesterday.
