If it bleeds, it leads. Our media doesn’t have a monopoly on fake news. Not saying that pics of doors being welded are fake... but we really know very little. The fact that they have an authoritarian system complicates things, but... In the Wiki article about the Spanish flu that I posted earlier there is a curious factoid - all governments, including the US, lied to their people, trying to minimize the seriousness of the disease — except for Spain. They reported the true numbers. For their trouble, the disease got christened the “Spanish” flu. Politicians always think they know best.
