Capitalism is defined as private ownership and control over the means of production, where the surplus product becomes a source of unearned income for its owners. By contrast, socialism is defined as social ownership of the means of production so that the surplus product accrues to society at large.

Has anyone ever met Mr Society At Large?

I haven’t. Who controls everything under socialism are the political bosses — who have turned out to be authoritarian and rather brutal in 100% of cases when socialism has been “tried”. And always will.

“Unearned income”... anyone who ever owned a business can tell how “unearned” it is.

A socialist will always try to erode the idea of private ownership. The most recent gimmick is “You didn’t build it yourself”.
