A few notes to the InformationWeek article:

1. According to EMC's 1994 annual report (published April 7, 1995) United Parcel Service, Wal-Mart, GTE, and MCI were all EMC customers.

2. According to EMC's latest 10-K EMC has agreements with Bull, Hewlett-Packard and NCR to market EMC's products.

3. While the article addressed the near-term demand for the storage of text it ignored the longer-term need for storing multimedia files such as video and sound. This need is primarily contingent on advances in the speed of communications. As data transmission speeds increase, more multimedia content will be put on computer networks which will create an additional demand for storage products.
