Dale,

wired.com

Thanks for the above link. Indeed, this company is aiming for some of the same markets as Microvision. However, one of the reasons I'm in this stock is VRD inherent advantages over flat panel display technologies like the one at the end of the above link. The advtantages are primarily in the areas of luminance, resolution, contrast, and color gamut, but there are others.

For example, let's talk about resolution. The announcement cited that this LCD device uses a 180,000 pixel screen. Microvision's current prototype is 480 X 640 or 307,200 pixels. Microvision's recent contracts call for it to achieve resolutions of 1024 X 1280 by the end of the year (1,310,720 pixels). It will be difficult for flat panel display technology to achieve this kind of resolution without unacceptably sacrificing luminance, contrast or color.

There are other competitors out there. We've discussed them here from time-to-time. Kopin and Planar come to mind. Each is attempting to improve flat panel display technology in some way. I believe Microvision will be able to make a superior product for an acceptable price. It won't be the perfect product for every application, but it seems poised to dominate.
