<<Does Gennifer deal in her book with why she thought Bill stayed with Hillary?>>
Its funny, but I didn't get the sense from reading the book that she knew Bill very well at all. She said, Bill made references to Hillary's liking for other women, meaning her lesbian tendencies. I won't use here the exact terms used to describe this. Also, he respected Hillary's strength and political savvy. She was a perfect political foil to help him in his climb to the Presidency. I believe their relationship was based on mutual need and respect, but not as far as their personal, or intimate relationship was concerned.
<<Most intelligent, emotionally healthy women understand that it is wives, not mistresses, who hold almost all the cards in a relationship, and that being the wife is a more secure position. Are you saying that Gennifer didn't really understand the difference?>>
Yes, she understood, but I believe she never stopped hoping that it would change. The precise moment, things changed in her mind was when Hillary became pregnant. Bill was very excited about the, heir apparent" and she had gone through the trauma of an abortion to protect this man. I don't know if she realize this, but part of what she did was a unconscious desire for revenge. I say, unconscious, because she would never admit to such a thing, especially now.
I think right now, she probably feeling, good he's getting what he deserves, but like I said she would never admit to such feelings.
A point of interest, nowhere in her book does she say that there was any discussion of Bill ever leaving his marriage or wanting something permanent with her. The thing she did say, was she would probably still have a relationship with him, if she hadn't found someone else. A man named Finis, appropriate to find a man called, "The End" <vbg>
Afterwards, she suspected that he may have been carrying on with other women during their relationship and was tested for AIDS as a result of that discovery. She was upset that he may have exposed her danger, which is really funny. Considering that her apartment was broken into, felt her life was in danger during the aftermath.
One point I have to make, Gennifer did not betray her affair with Clinton, when he was running for President, the opposition dug up the stories and at some point she had to take steps to protect herself. The tapes had nothing intimate on them, she only started taping their conversations after their affair was over and realized that Clinton's people were trying to bury her. She was not very smart about the Star, Penthouse and other stupid things she did. But what we have to remember she was on her own, she didn't have zillions of advisors, lawyers and whatnot to help her. She really went up against some real heavies in the administration.
I think she had guts to stand up and not run away from the whole sordid mess. But I don't know where she could have run anyway, the long arm of political corruption can reach anywhere.
Oh yes, she did receive lots of money for her story and why not, she realized she needed to look after herself. No one else was going to do it.
After all is said and done, was she right, who knows. I'm just stating the impressions I received from her book. Not casting a moral judgment on the woman. There is never a clear cut right or wrong in these instances.
Oh dear, enough waffling. <VBG> |
