Jerry: My own view is that an upshot of this scandal and numerous others swirling about this president may be that significant portions of the electorate- who, like you, are willing to overlook serious flaws in character and integrity in a leader- will be somewhat disabused of the seemingly absurd notion that "character doesn't matter." That rude awakening may, I suspect, lead to a far more thorough examination, by a chastened electorate, of future candidates for high office. In this wise, Bill Clinton, who has thoroughly dis-graced the office of the president and offered a lasting exemplar of moral turpitude to a generation of impressionable youths, may have, ironically, served the Republic for which he has expressed nothing but contempt.
