Like you, I've been using Patriot. Over the years, they've never failed.

But I wanted something a little friendlier for my laptop. I tried a SanDisk Ultra Fit.

So far, it's been great. In fact, when I needed the next one, I my choice was identical.

amazon.ca

Note: They come in a variety of capacities.

I've tested the Ultra Fit using both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 and you may find the results interesting.

The similarities of the Write speeds seems to indicate this speed is determined by the device more than how it's connected. The Read speeds are much faster using USB 3.0. (The device supports USB 3.1, but I don't have a way of testing this.)

Results

Note: The device I tested is 47% full. With all flash storage, speeds deteriorate as storage fills.

Cheers, PW.
