Promoting awareness is not a cause. However it may be an effect. The cause is more likely related to pollution and the subsequent disruption in the delicate balance of hormones that defines the "traditional" sexes. There has been much written on hormones, gender, and sexuality and on the impact of various pollutants on our hormones and on decreasing fertility. Give it a google...you might learn something.
