I use to game, been gaming since my first Tandy Color Computer in around 88-89. In the 90's up until around 2015 I was hard core gamer, usually flight combat sims and FPS (First Person Shooters). Had the best, fastest of everything, and used headphones, good ones.

The reason I used headphones for gaming was no one else in the house wanted to hear machine gun fire and explosions all night long. Plus another reason, with headphones you can here the enemy sneaking up to you, in games such as Ghost Recon. Headphones where a must to hear enemy movement in the bush.

So I had them plugged in all the time into the Sound Blaster card. I can not see anything happening to them. They are designed to last for many years and if they are good quality, you should get a lifetime of use form them plugged in or not. The only thing I had wear out was the volume controls (if equipped) and the actual plug itself.
