Gigabit Ethernet market set to explode:
---
Chip vendors are flocking to gigabit Ethernet, which has the potential to become the next high-speed networking technology.
Although chip sales will amount to less than $10 million this year, market researcher In-Stat of Scottsdale, AZ, expects the market to balloon to nearly $700 million in 2001. That's luring many semiconductor companies, including VLSI Technology, Texas Instruments, Hewlett-Packard, LSI Logic, Seeq Technology and start-up XaQti, to turn out chips to perform the switching, access and transceiver functions for gigabit Ethernet gear. The fiber-based technology is expected to get a boost when standards are finalized this spring.

Again LSI very well-positioned here. |
