Remdesevir is an approved treatment for Ebola virus, so it's just an approved drug being studied "off label" for Covid-19.

The same is going on with several HIV drugs.

It's like aspirin being used as "an experimental treatment" for Covid-19. Aspirin is experimental as it's never been approved for use with Covid-19 virus.

In the context of an "experiement" some of the patients don't receive aspirin infusions to treat their fever.

Remdesevir seemed to be the most helpful of the drugs tried so far on Chinese patients, but trials may show some HIV drugs are useful as well.

China liked the results so much they cranked out their own remdesevir without patent permission from Gilead, even though Gilead offered the remdesevir for free.
