No, I find it weird all the way around. Kind of like when Bush Jr said, "When I looked into Putin's eyes, I saw into his soul." That's cringe worthy. There used to be a time, when our American leaders would call a spade a spade and distance our country from bad people. We could make deals with our enemies, when we had mutual interests, but we wouldn't kowtow or pretend to like them or what they stood for. Nowadays, all of our leaders are reluctant to call out bad behavior when we see it. Remember, Obama bowing to the Saudi King and sucking up to the Ayatolla in Iran and making a shitty nuclear deal? If it were me, I'd cut Saudi Arabia off. That's a deal with the devil. If it were me, I wouldn't be friends with President Xi nor Putin and I wouldn't praise them, but I also wouldn't hesitate to make deals where our mutual interests are aligned and where we could verify they can be held accountable for their end of the deal.
