The on going discussion about xDSL modems being standard equip. in PCs for Christmas 98 is premature in my opinion. This could only happen once the standards are truly agreed upon and the commitment by the RBOCs etc. are more than words thrown out in press releases.

I suggest we first see what the pending announcement has to offer. As of right now I see the RBOCs as barnacles just clinging on for the ride, are they just involved or are they committed? Without strong commitments from them I see the roll out of xDSL as being slow as many have suggested.

Remember the old saying about the difference between being involved or committed.

When you look at a plate with ham & eggs, you see the eggs and understand the chicken was involved, BUT, when you see the ham....you KNOW the pig was committed!

Let's hope for all involved to be truly committed.

Regards,

Scrapps
