I wasn't paying attention when I read the article
about the Japanese helping out S. Korea on their
semi equip purchases. I thought it said Japanese DRAM
makers (as in joint ventures) but it said
Japanese semi equip makers. I feel like Emily Latela
(Gilda Radner for those of you under 30) -- Never Mind.

At first glance it seems that these arrangements would
help Cymer -- anything to keep those step & scanners
moving. But, on the other hand, if the steppers are
installed in debt ridden fabs -- Cymer will still have
to deal with collecting directly (I believe) from the
semiconductor makers for servicing the lazer and the
service end of Cymer's business is significant. So it
might lead to headaches down the road.

I still think some semi companies can slow down or fail
but the industry overall and the move to .25 will be
in tact. I don't think any more debt is going to help
S. Korea. Tomorrow's semi news has an article about Japanese
dram makers cutting back on 16 mb dram production and going
full steam ahead into 64 mb.

Happy investing,
Angela
