In a related matter, President Clinton and his Cabinet discussed the 2000 problem during a meeting at the White House, where the agency heads were warned to get on top of the problem quickly. Franklin Raines, director of the Office of Management and Budget, told the Cabinet secretaries they would be held "personally responsible for getting on top of the problem," spokesman Mike McCurry said.

"It's a source of very great concern to both the president and the vice president," McCurry said. "As the vice president said, it's clear now that there will be some level or some degree of problem on the day ... Jan. 1, 2000."
