Only paid for dogs once in my life and that was a looong time ago. Two Shepherds which I (partially) trained and then handed over to the cop shop. Since then one small adoption fee to a shelter which essentially only covered their cost for shots and spaying and a donation to the sanctuary we got our latest model from.

As long as there are dogs in local shelters or can be found in nearby places via the internet (Petfinder etc), I would not even dream of handing money to a breeder or to any entity which imports dogs from foreign countries. There are plenty of dogs in need of a new home right at one’s doorstep.

As for the 90 Mil dogs in the US ... I wonder how many of these are in shelters or otherwise up for adoption.
