I think that is the case, almost by definition. If it becomes endemic, we will then have constantly mutating variants of this virus moving around in the population in addition to all the others that cause unpleasant illness and take vulnerable lives; such as common cold (another coronavirus, by the way), influenza and noroviruses (stomach bugs). Already, a flu vaccine just gives you a certain chance of fending off the particular strain of flu you encounter.

Even if the COVID-19 death rate is as low as 0.1-1.0%, as estimated in the tweet FUBHO shared, the upper range of that is a magnitude more deadly than flu.
