I met Barb yesterday, and we had a really good time together. She is vivaceous and fun, with lots of energy and spirit. We could have talked on and on if we had not had other things to do. She will probably be down here another week although she has heard that the electricity is finally back in her area. Even thought they have power, they still have problems - flickering, brownouts - because the power is not fully restored.

She had lots of stories to tell about the storm - like it being one of the few times one welcomes the Army into one's town. When she has time, perhaps she can post some of the tales. She really lived through a bad natural disaster. She said she knew their town was hit really hard when she saw films of the Prime Minister visiting it.

And one problem - there was no way to get cash. The ATM machines weren't working. So that gas stations had to close because people would pump the gas but not pay for it! They couldn't; they had no money and no way to use their credit cards. Barb and her husband went out during the storm to get gas and provisions like batteries, because she had a sense that it was going to be really bad. She is very glad that her husband had work to do in New Jersey, because they are both self-employed and could have another kind of money problem if neither one could work.

I wrote all of this before reading through the thread, and now see that Barb got ahead of me and has already posted! We did have fun...
