I think they are probably pretty good jobs for people coming from depressed economies- but the cruise lines are definitely taking advantage of the workers (hello, capitalism). I don't know what the answer is- I just know I hated the cruises I've been on and the servile nature of the workers- who depend on tips for much of their income. On the one hand, I'm glad they've got better jobs than they might have at home, on the other hand, I do not feel comfortable being part of their exploitation.
