(Full text of press release from Canadian Corporate News) JANUARY 26, 1998 Corel Computer Corp. announces release of CorelVIDEO(TM) Corporate v.1.72 OTTAWA, ONTARIO--Corel Computer Corp. today announced the release of CorelVIDEO(TM) Corporate version 1.72, a major upgrade to its video communications product line. The current release expands on the idea of deploying video as a complete communications system using tools such as desktop videoconferencing, video on demand and corporate and business television. Recently, Corel Computer implemented a trial version of CorelVIDEO Corporate with Global Access Telecommunications Services, Inc., a Williams company. The goal of the project was to enable more effective communications among four Williams offices in Denver, Colorado; Rockville, Maryland; Houston, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma. With the help of Corel Computer, Williams is successfully implementing quality service as well as near-transparent video and audio use among its locations. With the click of a mouse, Williams' employees can quickly and easily communicate through videoconferencing. In addition, video content can be distributed to all locations from a central site. The connection speeds between the locations can vary from 384kb/s to T1 (1.55Mb/s) and even to DS3 (45Mb/s) if required. "We are proud to have been able to help Williams implement such a successful video solution," said Eid Eid, president of Corel Computer Corporation. "Our software expertise and resources, custom applications and features, and rapid implementation and integration enabled us to create a unique solution. Corel Computer has shown that CorelVIDEO Corporate is ideal for large organizations deploying video distribution and communication networks." CorelVIDEO Corporate features five major improvements from the previous version: 1. V.35 WAN Support Dedicated and direct modes of V.35 codec connections are now supported. Dedicated V.35 codec supports DTR to indicate that a call is being initiated while the connecting device establishes a circuit to the destination. Direct V.35 codec allows the communication lines between two locations to be active at all times without having to establish a video connection. 2. High-performance WAN connections This feature is intended for site-to-site connections at 384 Kbps or higher, or for sites that prefer to use a WAN connection instead of an ISDN line 3. Auto-answer PC-less consoles Consoles that are connected to devices such as VCRs or communication equipment have the ability to send and receive video automatically. 4. Fibre optic trunk and line extenders Trunking and user line signals can now be extended to 3 km with the use of multimode fibre and Corel(R) FIBRE OPTIC EXTENDERS. 5. Video screen saver CorelVIDEO Corporate provides the option to switch to a screen saver mode to eliminate potential screen damage while in Video on Idle mode. The implementation of an innovative automated testing program was key to the quality and rapid development cycle of CorelVIDEO Corporate version 1.72. Quality assurance software developed by Corel Computer complemented existing quality programs. The software automated testing and simulated user traffic on a CorelVIDEO test site. The software simulated tens of thousands of potential user operations and performed more than 30,000 video calls per week. "Customers can feel confident that their CorelVIDEO solution has been tested to ensure reliability and performance," said Allan MacPhee, product manager for CorelVIDEO. "Automated testing as part of the QA program has made CorelVIDEO Corporate the most stable and problem-free release in the history of the product." The CorelVIDEO quality assurance lab consists of more than 75 computers running under various platforms such as Windows(R) 95,Windows NT(R), Windows(R) 3.11 and Macintosh(R). Corel Computer has twelve dedicated internal video networks that allow the company to simulate real- world environments. Corel Computer Corp.
