In addition to not understanding why the Russians didn't go along with the Saudis, I also don't understand why the USG doesn't support the shale producers in order to keep them from wholesale bankruptcy on account of a fight in which we are not direct participants. Energy independence is quite simply a matter of national security. The entire episode is illogical, from top to bottom. It will resolve, somehow, and I will make a nice profit on my newly acquired XOM and BP shares, which are being sold as if the end of the world was upon us.
