HI Earlie; Well I know I can't compeat. One time I did have an
offer from TDK for price support "if" I took on a 30k commitment
a month. It was to much for me to move, and I still had to buy
HDs from Entertainment Marketing, ( who eventually went under and
burned a lot of supplyers ) I got eased out in 92-93 and glad
I did. Only people with good conections have a chance building
boxes. CPQ is making a smart move getting DEC, if not smart
it's about the only door open to them that may save their
butt. These under $1000 sets are getting cheaper and margins
thiner by the week, they need to sell and service
some high end stuff to live. Every were you go Asians have what
I call back door shops turning out clones, and they keep
spreading out. It's a battle field that on the low end stuff
American box makers don't have a chance of winning. The Asians
stick together in a net work of sorts that seems to defy our
understanding. Back when I bought AMD stock in 96 when it hit
it's lows I did it because of a tip from one of my Tiawan friends.
I don't get to Houston much now days and kind of miss talking
with some of them. I was really impressed with how smart some
of thier computer engineers were, and how they could trace down
problems on a MB and such. I was just a plugin mix and
match type low level dunce compared to most of them.
