Knowing how dangerously stupid people can be when panicked, I guess I subscribe to the effort of any government withholding information from the public until they know exactly what kind of health issue they're dealing with. Imagine the attempted flight of people out of a city of 11 million. How many would die that way.

Behind the scenes, officials had gone into high gear to get on top of it, acc. the NYT article that was linked in the Guardian article. And as soon as they had a diagnosis, a massive quarantine began unlike anything that could be done in this country.

But that's just me. One good thing is that acc. to an article in the Asian Times, Doctor Li's name is listed on a government website now as a patriot who was felled in the fight against the virus along with a long sad list of other medical workers. I think 19 doctors lost their lives.
