ATI's Industry-Leading AGP and DVD Technology To Provide Compaq Presario 4860 Series Computers With Best 2D, 3D, Video Acceleration And Software DVD Replay
RAGE PRO(TM) chip the worldwide AGP leader for multimedia systems
TORONTO, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- ATI Technologies Inc. (Toronto: ATY - news) today announced its RAGE PRO(TM) 2X AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) graphics accelerator chip has been selected by Compaq Computer Corporation [NYSE:CPQ - news] to provide the world's best graphics and DVD replay for its new Compaq Presario 4860 series, also announced today by Compaq.
The selection of the RAGE PRO chip for the Compaq Presario 4860 series marks a continuation of ATI's appearance in the Presario computer, with both the 300MHz Presario 4850 and the 266MHz Presario 4840 featuring RAGE PRO technology. The new Presario 4860 is a 333MHz, 64MB system with an 8GB hard drive and a second generation DVD drive.
ATI's RAGE PRO chip, with a three-fold performance increase over the previous generation accelerator, allows for the highest level of realism in 3D applications for avid gamers and multimedia enthusiasts. The RAGE PRO chip's hardware-assist function for software DVD replay, called motion compensation, produces crisp, full motion, full screen video MPEG2 playback for the best in home theater and entertainment applications.
The Presario 4860 series will also enjoy the full benefit of ATI's AGP 2X implementation, which includes SideBand Addressing (SBA) and AGP Texturing, which further increases the intensity of 3D images on the screen.
''ATI has been at the forefront of both AGP and DVD technological innovation,'' said Alex Gruzen, Director of Presario Product Marketing at Compaq Computer Corporation. ''The RAGE PRO chip provides our Presario 4860 series customers with the amazing 3D realism and superior video performance that they have come to expect from Compaq.''
ATI's DVD technology leads the marketplace
RAGE PRO's video acceleration and motion compensation technology produces high-quality DVD replay that can be played through a PC using software, with higher resolutions than is possible with a DVD video player/TV system. It provides the full frame rates needed for DVD/MPEG2 playback, frame rates that are not possible without motion compensation.
''ATI is very pleased that Compaq has selected the RAGE PRO chip, including our industry-leading software DVD technology, for the Presario 4860 series,'' said Ed Grondahl, vice president of product marketing at ATI. ''When you couple this with the industry-leading 3D performance of the RAGE PRO chip, the Presario 4860 series emerges as a clear leader among multimedia systems.''
ATI's leading AGP solutions
The RAGE PRO chip has been selected by more system designers than any other AGP controller on the market. ATI has shipped more than 2 million such controllers since the product's introduction last fall. As well, ATI is the only graphics vendor to produce the full AGP 2X implementation. With ATI's AGP 2X solution, the Presario 4860 series will offer the full benefit of the AGP specification, displaying all the massive textures of AGP content on the screen.
