Great find, Win! I've read the article, and about halfway through the video, but this is great information.
This statement is what I've been really concerned about, and I hope I'm conveying that concern appropriately without sounding like I think this is Ebola 2.0 (it absolutely is not).
"As I told Dan, the problem is that if 2-3% of the infected individuals need ICU care but no health system on earth is designed to deal with that kind of demand. Hence, if you want the same fatality rate as Taiwan or Germany, it’s all about preventing your ICUs from being swamped. That’s all about bending the curve."
He is right, there is no country in this world that has the resources to deal with those kinds of numbers, hence the draconian measures you are seeing worldwide to slow this down. As a country, if we can bend that curve, we can be Taiwan. I want to be Taiwan, not Italy.
Another point that I think is being lost on some people is this: If our hospitals are full, and you can't get treatment, that means the fatality for other diseases goes up as well. If you can't get your Dad to a hospital that has open beds, then he may die from a heart attack, instead of being diagnoised quickly and appropriate treatment given. Those are very real issues that our public health officials are working diligently to avoid.
I know the media is having a field day with this, and I know that there is inaccurate information going around, but it's not going to hurt any of us to brush that aside and listen to the officials who have credibility, like Dr. Fauci. All I'm saying is let's try to have an open mind. The worse thing anyone can do is keep saying the media is over hyping this, THEREFORE I'm going to ignore everything and assume it's a bad cold. Happy medium is usually a safe place to be.
