I wouldn't count oil out. Trump has already decided to prop the market up by filling the SPDR. In addition, I believe Trump is going to make a phone call to MBS in Saudi Arabia and remind him that he's the tail and the US of A is the big giant dog that is wagging that tail. Trump will tell MBS to knock it off or he'll lose US support against his enemies. That will end the oil price war and will put a floor under the industry. Just watch.

As to gold, it is entirely rational that it sold off. The reason is the same as bonds selling off. When stocks plummeted like they did, there were two reactions by investors: 1) many needed to sell off their winners to pay for margin calls on their stocks...that meant selling off bonds and gold, 2) stock buyers who didn't have large hoards of cash, also wanted to sell some winners to buy stocks on the cheap, so they sold their gold and bonds. That is exactly what happened. So gold and bonds both did play the role they were intended to play to buffer against the stock rout. But there will always be that moment when gold and bonds will get sold off to rebalance back into stocks. That's when everyone comes out of the woodwork saying gold is manipulated, but that is only a convenient answer, but not the whole truth.
