Chance,
Yeah, I saw that. I hesitated posting it though because the stock was down at the time the release crossed my screen. Thanks for mentioning it. It's a busy day today. I wonder if CHAT is finally turning the corner now.
ChatCom provides RAINS Server Clusters for MCI's ATAC Center to Serve as Foundation for Frame Relay Network Management
CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 1998--ChatCom, Inc., (NASDAQ: CHAT) announced today that it has been selected by MCI Telecommunications Corporation to serve as a strategic hardware platform to support and deploy new network management tools in their San Jose, CA, Advanced Trouble Analysis Center (ATAC).
ChatCom server clusters will host network management tools and utilities that will enable network managers to see into the WAN cloud on a total end-to-end basis allowing them to 'proactively manage' their network's connectivity.
"ChatCom's RAINS implementation represents one of the most viable 'business continuance' systems we evaluated," said Jim Parkhurst, Senior Staff Engineer for MCI's Product & Technical Support Services. "Our decision to host critical processes that will manage, diagnose, and assist in providing robust reliable network services to our customers on the ChatCom platform was based on several important benefits."
"The RAINS hardware platform is a forward thinking design, very robust, and is moving rapidly toward becoming very open in terms of hosting heterogeneous systems and functions," noted Parkhurst. "The ChatCom architecture is also far more scalable than other platforms available. MCI's networks are growing at an astounding pace and we need to have management platforms that can grow to accommodate that scale. Finally, the level of customer intimacy and customer service we have received from all levels within the ChatCom organization has been outstanding."
"The pilot deployment of MCI's ChatCom hardware has been up and running in California for over a month." indicated Rex Jackson, Sr. VP of Research and Development for ChatCom. "We have developed a co-operative working relationship with MCI. They asked us to 'push the technology envelope' somewhat and the net result appears to be a significant new business advantage for both parties."
MCI has deployed ChatCom hardware to support its Advanced Trouble Analysis Center (ATAC). The center will use ChatCom's rack mounted fault tolerant processors attached into multi-host RAID level 7 disk storage subsystems. The systems are used to collect, categorize and perform analysis of near real-time data crucial to efficient network operations. MCI's Parkhurst also said, "Growing from regional to global, networks have become more complex, causing centralized data centers to require extensive data to maintain network performance, and handle system failures. The design and implementation of scalable reliable network management platforms is equally as important to MCI as is the design and implementation of scalable and reliable customer use networks. The ChatCom processors and RAID 7 storage subsystems affords us the greatest amount of flexibility in doing just that."
