The best advice that most people follow is to never invest money into the stock market that you may need to use in less than 5 years. And NEVER SELL INTO WEAKNESS or think you can find the bottom. Bob Brinker, who sold himself as a national Marketimer (still does in his newsletter) for over 30 years on the radio, could not find tops or bottoms - EVEN 50% OF THE TIME. During the 2008 bear market, Brinker called four bottoms and told his followers to put all available cash into the stock market. The market just crashed through ALL of those "bottoms" and ended in March 2009 with a 57% loss (top to bottom).
