Do you ever wonder why nobody else has had to do this kind of thing? Or for that matter why Australia has not had a cyclical recession for 30 years?

Because when the government keeps bailing out the industry at the drop of a hat, the risk premiums go down and the businesses keep engaging in risky behavior...just as they did after 2008 crash.

Nobody can put a floor under the stock market. Read the history of the 1929 crash. They actually tried.

If it comes to it, they should guarantee the pensions rather than the institutions. So the markets can crash, but the pensions will still be valued at book.
