To Thread,

I talked to my broker at A.G. Edwards today. A common feeling is that this deal is dilutive for at least 1998 and therefore many mutual fund managers are very disappointed. Just when many fund managers were thinking of adding cpq to their portfolio this merger news hits. Since fund managers are short-term thinkers they are now reluctant to add cpq to their portfolios diminishing demand for cpq stock and resulting in reduced price. He believes that cpq is pretty much dead in the water in 1998 until charge-offs, dilution etc. are digested and there is real evidence of earnings growth resulting from dec acquisition.
