No one wants to rip him needlessly but if he lied under oath, and/or encouraged others to lie under oath that cannot be ignored. We are a nation of laws, and those laws should apply to all, for this to be a really great country. Of course he is innocent until proven guilty, but one has to be tried before a judgment can be rendered. The trial of the President is just beginning. Standing up and supporting him, when you cannot be sure of his innocence, makes as much sense as condemning him before you can be sure of his guilt(innocent unitl proven guilty is necessary in court but hardly applies to real life decisions about people). Better to abstain from judgment until the facts, whatever they are, come to light. If he has lied and suborned perjury (I don't care that much about the sexual excapades, except insofar as they would show extreme bad judgment and misuse of federal employees) he should be punished. If he has not done any of these things, than the rumor mills of Washington, the news media, and we the people, have wronged the first family, and tarnished the image of the President for nothing. |
