This is how it began in many Eastern European countries. Some type of crisis leads to government help (taking over) companies and industries. People now work for the government. You get a pretty little "Party ID Card" that tells authorities where you rank on the Party scale. Not all members are equal. Some are more equal. Would you like any meat or fresh vegetables? Go look at the shelves now and see what you will get. (unless you have the proper card). Everybody gets the same pay for the same non-work.

You can still see all of this on Walking tours in Budapest, Prague, Warsaw. They are preserving it. I'm positive that many people on these threads experienced this in real life and are now trembling in fear.

One car...a gorgeous 3 cylinder Trabant every 5 or 6 years, but you can choose any of 3 colors.



The apartment choices are even better.
