OT: FYI, aspirin came from the No. American Native's
use of Birch tree bark to relieve pain. Salicylic
acid acetate is the active ingredient.

One of my grad school committee members
spent a lot of time in the desert and Amazon
rainforest looking for plants that native people
used for medicine. He made a career of it,
extracting the active ingredients and making
derivates for marketable drugs at Merck.
