Our knowledge about the virus is growing rapidly. Tons of studies are in progress all over the world. I just posted one suggestion. The Guardian article about the Chinese experience of evolving out of their lockdowns (I posted it last night) is generally encouraging. They didn’t stay locked down for long.

A bit sooner or later, they’ll crank up mask manufacturing. Expect the CDC recommendations to change as soon as this happens. They’ll become “fashionable”.

Many medications are under very active investigation. They’ll identify best treatment protocols.

How long was most of China under a lockdown? I don’t recall exactly - a couple of months? That gives us a crude idea what to expect. If anything, it ought to be somewhat briefer.

So, there may not be any clear catalysts - more likely, it will be a combination of more knowledge, understanding, experience - and the recognition that for life as we know it to go on... we must go back to work.
