China has 23 times the population of Italy. Yet Italy has 60% more Coronavirus deaths.
Does anyone believe the China numbers at all?
There were credible reports that they massaged the numbers of cases in Wuhan in the days prior to Xi visit. OTOH, stories in the Western media about relatively normal life resuming in China, with people in public places making comments - also sound good.

During the worst times in Wuhan, we’ve seen an avalanche of comments, photos, videos of people falling in the streets, dying in hospitals.... hard to believe that something seriously bad happening all over their country could be covered up.

The timing of the improvement that they claim seems rational - about 6-8 weeks into draconian restrictions. That’s about what we expect and hope would happen in the US.

So, hopefully, their reports - at least in important aspects - are close enough to reality. That would give us a clue about what’s likely to happen in other countries - and here. Among other things, it would show us whether distancing and business closures actually work. If they’ll get another big wave all over the country - that should give us pause.
