O/T I was talking with my wife about this tonight. About 10-years ago I spoke for a few hours with someone who had been a high level civil servant for many administrations, and they quit because things had just become so politicized within the agency.

Starting with 2001, political operatives inside agencies increased immensely according to them, and their influence over time sometimes warped their mission.

They said it continued in 2009, and I have no doubt it continues to this date.

The response of the agencies may have been politicized to the point of adversely affecting their missions. I have no doubt there were plenty of people in all the major centers responsible for this type of situation that were ready with plans, but were thwarted or shouted down. the Intelligence Community was briefing people on this in mid-January, so it's not like it came out of nowhere.
