Possibilities:

1) General market jitters (asia, clinton, current downtrend, etc.) causing those with gains in high P.E. stocks to take their money/profits off the table

2) Earnings related leaks

3) Rumors (Howard Anderson, Yankee Group) about Peoplesoft acquiring Vantive, or other front office developer. If this comes to pass there would likely be a drop in price even if it makes sense strategically

I would guess that earnings will be good/great. An acquisition would probably take a while to digest, especially if it is Vantive which has a market cap over 700 milliion, so would probably cost about 1.0 billion. It would be accretive to earnings, but the combo likely would bring the earnings growth below PSFT's current rate.

Anybody have any comments, or better yet, facts ?
