Coronavirus: The House of Commons will reconvene today to take up emergency legislation intended to cushion the blow from COVID-19. The relative sense of unity between parties in the wake of the outbreak was shattered last night amid reports the Liberals were proposing to give themselves sweeping unilateral power on taxation and spending. Conservative Party of Canada Leader Andrew Scheer warned in a statement that his party won’t grant “unlimited power”. Shortly before midnight Government House Leader Pablo Rodriguez pledged changes to the legislation in an apparent walk-back.
