William,
I don’t think anyone, including the politicians who make momentous decisions know how this plays out. A demand shock like we have right now seems deflationary. I think deflation is a much higher risk than inflation. What needs to be prevented is an economic meltdown where falling price cause a downward spiral.

The current downward spirals are energy, banking and now real state. Real estate is huge and could cause a cascade that now Bank or levered institution might survive.

The safest bets are those with low operational and low balance sheet leverage or even better net cash. Think, GOOGL, FB, MA, V etc, but those are most likely not the stocks that will give you the highest returns either.
