Don't pin your hopes on a single day. Have a look at Italy. I was so rooting for them to have another down day.

You need to see a minimum of 4, preferably 7 consistent data points to make a trend. Anything less is just not reliable.

Remember that at the end of the day you are relying on exhausted medical staff to get your data. Sometimes they fill it in the next day. Often they are not consistent in what they do (e.g. many states don't report the negative tests and only show how many are positive). At the other end, while the transmission rate is may be slowing down, we could be discovering more of existing cases. Which is to say there is a lot of noise and you need to have multiple data points to make a trend.
