3/27/2020 Contest update (Contest YTD is calculated from 1/3/2020 close.) Chalk up another meshuga week for stocks. If you asked me (please, nobody) both spikes up and spikes down are being driven by algorithmic trading programs. So any day or week’s stock market change has zero predictive value for where the market is headed short or long term. Meanwhile, Friday’s drop was not big enough to wipe out the rest of the week’s gains. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -22.10% YTD (vs. down -32.44% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -11.50% YTD (vs. down -16.98% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -18.71% YTD (vs. down –25.85% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI), was down -16.83% YTD (vs. down -23.74% YTD a week ago). JBOG’s portfolio, up 42.98% YTD, remained in first place with a big gain for the week. FILO’s portfolio, up 18.78% YTD, moved back to second place, while DOUGH’s portfolio, up 6.42% YTD, took third place. At Friday's close, only 4 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 12 beating the NBI and 18 beating the SPSIBI. The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD loss of -15.40% and a median YTD loss of -25.75%. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.) Portfolio adjustments: None. (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.) Enjoy another COVID-19-free weekend biotechies! Peace & good health, Bulba
