A friend at DEC told me that he would be very surprised if DEC decided to sole source a switch product, while also saying that it was very unclear how much of the market DEC was going to penetrate.

Why would Compaq decide to accept whatever DEC's conclusions were, particularly since the decision about Brocade was the end result of a process that very likely started far earlier than the availability of the MKII for evaluation?

Seems like a jump ball to me. . . .
