I live in Kirkland Washington not far from the hospital where the first person passed away.
We have a slow increase in the number of cases here and I have been somewhat reassured by the tests results here that show 93% negative tests for testing in our state.

However the test results coming out of New York and New Jersey are terrifying to me.
Over 33% of their tests are positive.

My sense is that the level of danger you state (or country) is in can be judged by the percentage of tests that are positive.
