| | | A week is a long time in politics: Boris Johnson believed a theory about herd immunity, and now he is part of the pre-herd, maybe immune and perhaps not. It's quite on the cards that with a week or 4, Prince William will be King of England, George will be next in Line, and King William will accept Jacob Rees Mogg as Prime Minister.
There would be a very peculiar funeral for Charles, Elizabeth II and Boris as crowds would be off the agenda.
Probabilistically, given Italy mortality rates likely are like English, Charles and Boris could very readily be not long for this world. Elizabeth II is now in very old age but does have good DNA given her mother's happy progress into her second century of life. But most of us are mortal and in our 90s the odds against us go up. In any event, she might think it timely to simply hand the reins and reign over to William while she's still around to offer a helping hand, wisdom and confident transition to the Great and Glorious British Commonwealth and Jolly Olde Englande.
Given the royal family messes of recent decades, it would be quite reasonable of her to consider her promise when she ascended the throne to have been fulfilled - "whether my life be long or short, I hereby dedicate my life to your service" [or words to that effect].
Meanwhile, I think it's going to have to be every man for himself and herd immunity via self-protection for those who care enough to do the necessary things such as buying very good quality breathing and eye protection, avoiding people in general and dodgy situations in particular. The economic cost of hiding in place like cowards is too enormous and inevitably ineffectual and fatal to far too many while being impoverishing for hordes.
