I agree with you that much still needs to be learned about the actions, specificity and potential side-effects of sildenafil. I'm still not willing to give Pfizer a free pass on sildenafil's "blue halo" effect until I see more data and information about its inhibition on retinal Type V-PDE (although I STRONGLY doubt the speculation about 'retinal degeneration' as the mechanism).

To date, no Phase III trial results or peer-reviewed articles have been yet released. However, the most current and accurate rumors have it that Viagra will be ready and on pharmacy shelves by the end of April (with professional sampling to doctor's offices to quickly follow!). As a dedicated patient advocate, I just might need to test drive some of these samples myself to make sure that they're absolutely safe for my patients ;^)
