Mostly agree, but
-Although he [along with most TA writers] concentrates on futures, IBM was one of his examples.
-His major point [as I read it] wasn't that "stock[s] or market[s] change in character from trend to ranging [and back]", but that systems fail over time as that particular market matures (traders notice and exploit it).

The current exploitation by quants of minor arbitrage situations is another major cause for systems failing over time IMO.

Would you happen to know another Estes who became a CFO on 1/5/98?
