Brocade announced a "technology agreement" with DEC on November 3, 1997. Now that I read the announcement again, it isn't really clear that it is an OEM agreement. This would be consistent with Patrick's friend's belief that DEC won't single source a switch. I had pretty much written them off, but I might have to reconsider.

It is becoming obvious that Compaq intends to become a player in the enterprise space, given their acquisitions of Tandem and DEC. It will be interesting to watch what they do with Fibre Channel as they move beyond hubs.
