CraigS1,
Thanks for the link. I was hoping, though, that there never was an announcement:-( Oh well,,,,
From the Brocade/DEC announcement:
""Brocade's SilkWorm is the only[emphasis mine - CS2] Fibre Channel switch that provides management and diagnostic services. These important tools will allow Digital's customers to maintain a highly available environment for databases and business critical information." brocadecomm.com
Is the assertion in the first sentence actually true? Isn't this an example of Brocade's propaganda machine being less than honest? When I talked with Cal Nelson he said that in one of Brocade's communications that they claim to have had the first Gigabit Fibre Channel switch. Personally I didn't see this(maybe it is/was on their web site) but maybe some of you did.
Anyway, back to the subject of Compaq. Yes, it does look like Compaq will be moving to switches much faster than we thought. One thing that is kind of nice is that Compaq may be calling the shots, and since they are not located anywhere near Brocade, like a lot of DEC's (research)facilities are, we won't have quite the geographical disadvantange that we had before.
