David: My belief on the so called "post-conference call private calls" is that there is incredible competition amongst analysts to gauge the short term future of these companies. I cannot remember a conference call (and I've listened to many; Cube and non-Cube) where I have heard one precision-like, hard hitting, insightful question asked by an analyst.
I think that they may circle around the areas of concern that they may have when asking a question in the conference call. But if there is something of major significance to the analyst's stance on the stock, then I believe that the analyst will wait for a private hearing with the company such that he can maintain the proprietary nature and authorship of his work and not end up doing the research for the conference call participants.
In other words, I think that these post conference telephone calls are initiated by the analysts and not by the company.
As usual, Herb has (IMHO) twisted reality to fit his motives. BTW, I thought that he never read the postings to the SI.
